What Is Molding Pressure in Injection Molding and Why It Matters

Molding pressure in injection molding typically refers to the force used inside the injection molding machine to push molten plastic resin through the barrel, nozzle, runner system, and finally into the mold cavity. This pressure is one of the most important process parameters in plastic part production because it directly affects mold filling, part formation, and overall product quality.

During injection molding, plastic resin is melted and injected into a steel or aluminum mold to form a finished plastic part. The molding pressure determines how effectively the molten material can flow through the system and fill the mold completely.

1. What Molding Pressure Does

The main function of molding pressure is to force the melted plastic into the mold cavity with enough energy to fill all required areas of the part. If the pressure is too low, the resin may not reach every section of the mold, especially in thin-wall areas, long flow paths, or detailed features.

As a result, the molded part may be incomplete or defective.

2. Why Proper Pressure Is Important
